This was such good news to hear. If you haven’t heard it already check out the blurb below.
J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII, the first of a new series of Star Wars films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.
I was wondering what others thought about this. Do you think it is a good idea or a recipe for disaster?
I honestly think this is one of the better things to come out of Hollywood in a while. J.J. has proven with Star Trek, Cloverfield, and Super 8, etc. that he has what it takes to not only work with big budgets, but in the Science Fiction genre as well. If the man got me interested in Star Trek, which I was never a big fan of, can you imagine what he will do with a franchise I love (not the prequels, just the original trilogy)? The mind races with possibilities. I hope this turns out great. If he can give me just a piece of the magic I felt for the original trilogy as a child. I will be more than pleased with this movie. I know Super 8 gave me that child like feeling all over again so we know he’s capable of pulling it off.
So, what are your thoughts on J.J. doing the next Star Wars movie?
As a huge fan of everything Star Wars (I started watching the Original Trilogy when I was 5) this news excites me. Although I don’t love all his work, Abrams is a really good director who has a keen sense of what makes good sci-fi. I think he’ll do the series justice. Still need to write my opinion post on this though…
I think he will do a great job as well. Maybe we can hang our heads high as Star Wars fans once again.
As a Star Trek fan it makes me laugh. A problem shared is a problem doubly hated.
Not as good a choice a Joss Whdon, but then again, who is?

I have always wondered about Star Trek fans when it comes to J.J. Joss Whedon though would be a great choice for the second one, if the Avengers aren’t taking up his time. Thanks for the comment.
I don’t really care who directs the movie, so long as it’s good
But I do find it amusing that he’ll be directing both Star Trek and Star Wars. Now he just needs to direct a Battlestar Galactica movie and he’ll have completed the holy sci-fi trifecta.
He has certainly been a busy man as of late and I wonder what Trek fans and Star Wars fans think about all of this? This is like dogs and cats living together – mass hysteria.
That, or it’s the beginnings of world peace. How awesome would it be if Star Wars and Star Trek brought about global harmony?
It would be pretty awesome.
He is the safest choice and an almost guaranteed win, but I am still not sure. I cant imagine his doing anything bad. Fingers crossed
I hope it will be great since the prequels really took away some of my faith in Star Wars.
We’ll just have to wait and see, cross fingers everyone!
